At AK Aerotek we don't just do our job. We aim at perfection. We thrive on robust discussions on various aspects of DO-178B. On some of these issues I have my own point of view. This blog is the result of that.
Sec 4.4.3 of DO-178B states that "Testing may be performed using the target computer, a target computer emulator or a host computer simulator" and further states that "The emulator or simulator may need to be qualified as described in subsection 12.2" .I think this answers your question...

I have query on SUT?
As per Do-178B Section 6.4.1, SUT can also be performed on Host Computer Simulator for credit. I am not sure on this statement!. My understanding is that SUT need to be performed only on Emulator/Evaluation boards to get credit.! If we perform SUT on Simulator do we need to get tool qual for that?
